  1. This book actually was incredibly helpful in taking my 2nd and 4th graders out of the public school. If you are making the transition from public school to home schooling just get your state’s core curriculum for the grade you are trying to teach and use this book to help focus your ideas. Then as you approach your second year of homeschooling you can continue to use the two resources, but begin to go in a direction that suites your child’s learning style and interest. This book has a great list of resources (suggested books, cds, websites) for teaching your child at home. Only two criticisms would be that it is not christian based (for example, it suggests evolution texts and fails to mention some great texts such as the apologia series for science) and at times is dated (for example, it suggests an art cd (that was available in 2000) that is no longer compatible with the newer operating systems of 2009). Please note that I gave it less stars then I might otherwise because of the last two criticisms that I noted above. As the years go by, this book will become even more outdated in regards to the suggested resources. But for now, I still use it to begin my curriculum ideas for each new school year.

  2. This book is excellent for homeschooling, and will help you have a roadmap to keep you on track with learning at various ages and stages. The book covers preschool through 12th grade, with subjects broken down and covered in detail for each grade. There are book lists, lesson plans, places to buy textbooks, and other very helpful resources in the appendices.

Even if you are not homeschooling, this can really help you teach at home and work with your child/children to keep them on track. Excellent resource to keep in your home library. Chock full of ideas for family talks and topics for family nights.

  3. This book has everything to help you design your own homeschool curriculum. But, it also has many goals to strive for, so that as you go through the year, you can check on the subject and grade level for your child and see how they are measuring up and if you need to review or add to the curriculum you have already been using. This is especially useful for home schoolers that use an eclectic approach and not a pre-packaged curriculum. My only wish is that she would publish a newer version!

  4. I have to admit I was stressed out originally when I read this book. It has SO MUCH information that you can very easily put pressure on yourself as a homeschooler. I homeschool both my children (7 & 6) and I want to be certain that I’m not leaving any “holes” in their education. The first year I literally tried to do EVERYTHING! I know, lame right? My kids and I were pulling our hair out! This year I wised up and realized that this book is a GUIDE, it gives suggestions.

I recommend this book wholeheartedly, just remember that you cannot do everything!

  5. This book is fantastic. Concise, full of ideas and benchmarks. A great foundation for your home school curriculum.
